  • How does Second Presbyterian Preschool handle potty training?
    Teachers partner with parents to help create a consistent routine and an encouraging environment to potty train children. We believe that it is imperative that parents and teachers communicate about children's potty-training progress to be successful. Teachers follow a schedule and track each child's progress; this information is sent daily through our app, Brightwheel. *Children must be potty trained to be in a three-year-old or four-year-old classroom.
  • Can you tell me more about Project Lead the Way?
    The Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program taps into a student's exploratory nature, engages them in learning that feels like play, and encourages them to keep discovering. Some of the PLTW modules covered during the school year are Matter: Solids and Liquids, Healthy Habits, Structure and Function, and Living Things. Children are encouraged to think outside the box and utilize their creativity to explore and create throughout each module.
  • How do teachers communicate with parents?
    Second Presbyterian Preschool uses the app Brightwheel for communication. Parents will receive and send messages, receive pictures of their child's activities, and children 2 and under receive Daily Notes on their child's nap, meals, and diaper/potty schedule each day. Parents also use the Brightwheel app to check their child in and out of school each day and pay tuition.
  • Does Second Presbyterian Preschool provide snacks and lunch for the children?
    Second Presbyterian Preschool provides morning snacks and an afternoon snack for children who stay for Aftercare. For lunch, parents have the option to pack their child's lunch each day or to order a prepared lunch through Bella's Kitchen. *Lunches must comply with DHS standards and include a protein, grain, dairy product, and a fruit or vegetable, along with milk to drink.
  • What hours is Second Presbyterian Preschool open?
    Second Presbyterian Preschool is open from 7:30-5:30 Monday through Friday during the school year. Our normal school hours are 8:30-3:00. Families may choose to have their child attend Early care from 7:30-8:20 or After Care from 3:00-5:30 for an additional charge. *Our summer schedule is Monday-Thursday 7:30-5:30.
  • What is the discipline policy at Second Presbyterian Preschool?
    We practice Conscious Discipline at Second Presbyterian Preschool. We believe that our job as Early Educators is to teach children in all areas of development, including social and emotional skills. Conscious Discipline teaches emotional regulation through redirection and guidance. Rather than punishing a child, teachers approach conflict or negative behavior with a calm and gentle response, teaching the child how to resolve conflict or by explaining why a behavior was not acceptable. The goal of Conscious Discipline is to guide children as they learn to navigate social settings.
  • What Enrichment Programs does Second Presbyterian Preschool offer?
    Second Presbyterian Preschool is proud of our incredible Enrichment Program. We have highly qualified teachers who lead our students in Art, Music, Project Lead the Way, and Chapel. - Our Art Class inspires creativity and self-expression, while building fine-motor skills and self-esteem. - Our Music Class is specially designed by our Music teachers to cater to each age group through age-appropriate music, movement, and exploration of musical instruments and sounds. The Music Program also plans and executes a Christmas Program for Threes and Fours and a Graduation Program for Fours. -Project Lead the Way leads children in exploring Science, Engineering, Technology, and Math through hands-on learning. -Chapel is a special time to learn about Jesus. Children learn a Bible story, a monthly Bible verse, and spend time singing, dancing, and praying. Our Enrichment Programs are tailored for each age group.   • What curriculum does Second Presbyterian Preschool use?
    Second Presbyterian Preschool believes in play-based learning. Our Preschool uses different curriculum in each age group. Beyond the curriculum, teachers are encouraged to use different teaching modalities and techniques to reach each child's individual needs. Teachers often use art, hands-on activities, games, and songs to enhance the curriculum and make learning engaging and fun. Below is our curriculum: Infants- Teachers create curriculum based on each infant's individual needs and growth Toddlers- Frogstreet Twos- Frogstreet Threes- Frogstreet and Learning Without Tears Fours- Scholastic Big Day, Learning Without Tears, and Heggerty (Phonemic Awareness)
  • What safety features does Second Presbyterian Preschool have in place?
    Second Presbyterian Preschool believes each child's safety is the highest priority. Each classroom is equipped with age-appropriate furniture and supplies to ensure a safe environment for your child. Systems are in place to ensure each child is picked up by an authorized adult. Our school is equipped with secure doors at each entrance and in each hallway. These doors require a security badge to enter. Only staff and authorized adults have access to security badges. All classrooms and playgrounds are monitored by security cameras. Second Presbyterian Preschool has plans in place for emergency situations. Drills are practiced routinely to ensure all staff and children know how to respond if an emergency were to occur. All staff are required to pass a background check and child maltreatment check. Staff in each classroom are CPR and First Aid Certified.
